Appointment of Paolo Garonna as New President of the Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice Foundation

Prof. Paolo Garonna succeeds Prof. Anna Maria Tarantola as President of Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice Foundation. Prof. Tarantola, former Deputy Director General of the Bank of Italy and President of RAI (the Italian Public services broadcaster), has been Member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation since November 2015 and its President since March 2019.

Paolo Garonna is professor of economic policy at the LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome. After graduating from the Sapienza University in Rome, he carried out studies and research in the USA (University of Denver) and in the UK (University of Cambridge). He has held, among other positions, those of Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe; Director General of ISTAT (the national Statistical office of Italy); Chief Economist at Confindustria (the main Italian business association); and, Secretary General of the Italian Federation of Banks, Insurance and Finance. He has authored studies and publications on Catholic Social Teaching, economics, and finance.
